Speaking of making him smile, I love Baby Ben's little grins! He started smiling right around 6 weeks. It is the best thing ever! Each little smirk totally melts my heart. My mom keeps telling me that if I think the smiles are good, to just wait until he's 3 months, or 6 months, or a year! She says it gets better and better. I can see what she means; with each passing day I seem to love him more and more!
Today is the first official day back to school for teachers in Marysville. I thought I would be really sad about not going back. To be honest, I feel ok! I can't imagine leaving my sweet boy with someone else all day long. While I know he would be just fine, I feel like I would miss out on so much. I went to school yesterday to visit and see everyone's classrooms. It was a great afternoon. I think i will be just fine with a weekly "visit" instead of being at work everyday!
Age : 2 months
Length : 24 inches
Weight : 12 pounds, 15 ounces
Milestones : Benjamin is smiling socially, cooing and "talking" up a storm, rolling to one side, lifting his head up for longer periods of time, focusing on objects, and following objects with his eyes. He especially loves looking at himself in the mirror that we have next to his changing table! He thinks he's pretty handsome just like Mommy and Daddy do. ;)
Sleep : At 6 weeks we had 3 or 4 days where he slept for 5 hour stretches! However, for some reason we are now back to sleeping in about 3 hour stretches each night. He'll have his occasional 4 or 5 hour stretch. I'm hoping those will be back soon. :) Benjamin's naps are still pretty sporadic. He sleeps GREAT on his tummy! I put him in his crib on his tummy for a nap for the first time the other day, and he slept for nearly 2 hours (normally we are lucky to get 30 minutes out of a nap!). I sat in his room watching him almost the whole time. I was terrified he would stop breathing!! But after doing a lot of reading on SIDS and talking with a lot of other moms, it seems like sleeping on his tummy might be just fine. We ordered a new monitor that will alarm if he stops breathing. It should arrive today! Maybe I'll feel more comfortable with him sleeping on his tummy at night when we have that all set up.
Eating : Benjamin continues to be a healthy eater. Takes after his mom and dad. ;) He eats about every 2-3 hours during the day, and every 3-4 hours at night. Breastfeeding is still going really well. I am so grateful! I know it is the best thing for your baby, so I am very happy that it is working out so well for us.
Favorites : Eating, going for walks in his stroller, being outside, looking at himself in the mirror, bath time, massages, and laying on his playmats - especially the one where he can play the piano with his feet (thanks Grandma!)
Doesn't like : Being cold (especially after his bath!), having gas, taking naps, being hungry, or being held in the cradle position. I wonder if it's because he is used to being fed when he's in that position, so if he isn't getting fed he gets anxious?
Well I better go get a few things done before my big 2 month old wakes up from his nap!!
